How to encode characters in an EAN 13 barcode? An EAN-13 barcode is a linear barcode that can only encode numeric digits, representing manufacturer and product information. Its encoding scheme consists of two-digit and three-digit numbers, represented by bars and spaces of different widths. The barcode scanner can identify and decode the information contained in the barcode. Other characters, such as letters, symbols, and punctuation marks, cannot be encoded in an EAN-13 barcode due to its design and encoding scheme. EAN-13 barcode is primarily used in retail applications, where it encodes product and manufacturer information for a wide range of consumer goods. It automates the checkout process, tracks inventory and sales data, and is easily read and decoded by various barcode scanners and point-of-sale systems. In addition to the EAN-13 barcode, QR codes can encode a wider range of characters, such as alphanumeric characters, symbols, and binary data. QR codes are often used in advertising and marketing applications, where they can be scanned by mobile devices to access digital content. *Minimum and maximum length of EAN13 barcode labels: This barcode is a fixed-length barcode, consisting of 13 digits divided into four parts: the leading digit, the country code, the manufacturer code, and the product code. Its length cannot be changed, and if a product code requires more than five digits, a different type of barcode may be needed, such as the EAN8 or UPC-A barcode. EAN8 barcode has eight digits, while the UPC-A barcode has 12 digits and is commonly used in North America. EAN13 barcode ensures a unique combination of digits for product identification and is easily read and decoded by barcode scanners. EAN-13 barcodes provide numerous benefits to organizations across various industries, including enhanced efficiency, productivity, inventory management, customer service, traceability, and regulatory compliance, among other benefits.
